DURGA MAHA NAVAMI POOJA

 

The ninth day of the Durga Puja festival is Maha Navami. It’s the last day of Navratri worship before Vijaya Dashami, the end of the festival. Maha Navami is observed as a public holiday in numerous Indian states. Maha Navami is also known as Ayudha Puja or Astra Puja in South India.

BELIEVED TRADITIONS

The goddess Durga is said to have eventually slain the terrible buffalo demon Mahishasura on this day.

The goddess Durga is known as Mahisasurmardini in honour of her victory.

Durga devotees will worship to the goddess for wealth and good health. The puja is widely celebrated in West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Tripura. Some people believe that the puja performed on this day is equivalent to the puja performed on all of the other days of Navratri. Huge crowds assemble to pray, eat festive delicacies, and take part in cultural activities.

POOJA VIDHI

The sandhi puja at the end of Maha Ashtami is followed by Maha Navami. It commences with a Mahasnan and Shodashopachara, a 16-step puja, according to the scriptures. Fasting is observed by devotees until the pujas are completed. Pink flowers are offered to the goddess, as pink is Maha Navami’s colour.

On Ashtami and Navami, Kanya Puja is held in several parts of the country, during which nine little girls, supposed to be the nine forms of Goddess Durga, are worshipped and given prasad. Their feet are cleansed, and they are given new garments.
