Mythological story of Rakshabandhan:-
According to the mythological story of Rakshabandhan, once Mother Lakshmi tied a Rakhi to King Bali and asked for Lord Vishnu as a gift. According to this story, once King Bali organized a yagya. At the same time, to test King Bali, Lord Vishnu came in his Vamana avatar and asked for three steps of land from King Bali, who was known as a great donor. At the same time, King Bali said yes, then Lord Vishnu measured the entire earth and sky in just two steps. King Bali realized that Lord Vishnu was testing him, then as soon as Lord Vishnu placed the third step, King Bali put his head forward.
King Bali said to Lord Vishnu that now I have lost everything, O Lord, please accept my request and come and live with me in the netherworld. Then Lord Vishnu had to agree to King Bali’s request and Lord Vishnu started living with King Bali in the netherworld.
When Mata Lakshmi came to know about this, she took the form of a poor woman and went to Raja Bali and tied a Rakhi on him.
