VRISHCHIK SANKRANTI

 

Vrischika Sankranti, also known as “Vruschika Sankramanam,” is a sacred day that symbolises the Sun’s transition from the Tula to the Vruschika Rashi. This transition corresponds to the Sun moving from the Libra Zodiac Sign to the Scorpio Zodiac Sign in the Gregorian calendar. The Rashi system of Indian astrology places the Vruschika Rashi at the eighth position.

This planetary shift of the Sun God on Vrischika Sankranti helps it to replenish vigour and occurs at a specified time of the year. The festival of Vrischika Sankranti marks the start of the Tamil calendar’s ‘Karthigai Masam’ and the Malayam calendar’s ‘Vrischika Masam.’ For Hindus, this day is extremely significant, and the Vrischika Sankranti rites are commemorated with tremendous dedication and excitement.

SIGNIFICANCE OF SANKRANTI

There are 12 Sankrantis in a year, according to the Hindu Solar Calendar, and each Sankranti marks the beginning of a new Hindu month. Vrischika Sankranti is one of the most fortunate days for Hindus, particularly those who live in India’s eastern regions. In Hindi, the word’san’ means ‘plenty,’ and the word ‘kranti’ means ‘radical change.’ As a result, the Sankranti celebration is said to usher in a slew of positive changes in our lives.

RITUALS OF VRISHCHIK SANKRANTI

Vrischika Sankranti is a day dedicated to the worship of the Sun God. Hindu worshipers seek Surya Bhagwan’s heavenly blessings by praying to Him. Sankraman Snan, Vishnu Puja, and Daan are also auspicious on Vrischika Sankranti. The ‘daan’ ritual should be conducted at a certain time on this day to reap the most benefits. ‘Shradh’ and ‘Pitru Tarpan’ are essential ceremonies on the festival of Vrischika Sankranti.
