On the day of Kartik Purnima, devotees of Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva maintain a fast and begin their day by having a holy bath early in the morning and reading the Kartik Purnima Vrat Katha. This katha tells the narrative of the demon Tripurasura’s demise. According to Hindu traditions, once upon a time, a demon named Tripurasura defeated the Gods and eventually conquered the entire world.
He is thought to have built three towns in space and named them Tripura. Lord Shiva arrived to save the Deva’s and killed the demon with an arrow, declaring that this day would be commemorated as a festival of lights and lighting.
SIGNIFICANCE OF KARTIK PURNIMA
The theological and spiritual significance of Kartik Purnima cannot be overstated. Devotees who worship Lord Vishnu and conduct Kartik Snan on this day are said to be blessed with great riches. Kartik Purnima is also a holy day for performing auspicious acts that can bring beneficial results, happiness, and delight. Kartik Snan in the Kartik Month is also thought to be equivalent to 100 Ashvamegha Yagya by others.
RULES OF KARTIK PURNIMA VART
People who live near the Ganga River must get up early in the morning and bathe in the holy water to wash away the sins of their previous lives. Those who do not have access to the holy river might purify their bathing water by adding a few drops of Gangajal.
On this day, dress in new, clean clothes.
Suryadev should be greeted with prayers and water.
At all costs, avoid eating meat, smoking, or drinking alcohol.
