It is a matter of a long time ago that a moneylender had seven sons and a daughter. All the brothers loved their sister very much and used to eat together. One day Karva Chauth came and the sister kept a fast with her sisters-in-law. At night when all the brothers came to eat, they asked the sister to eat too. But the mother said that she is fasting for Karva Chauth, so she will be able to eat only after the moon rises.

Hearing this, all the brothers decided to help their sister. They lit a fire in the forest and showed the moon to their sister through a sieve. The sister considered it to be the real moon and offered arghya to the moon and sat down to eat. But as soon as she broke the first piece of food, she sneezed. A hair came out in the second piece of food and as soon as she broke the third piece of food, she got the news of her husband’s death. Hearing this, she started crying a lot.

Then her sister-in-law told her that the fast of Karva Chauth was broken without the moon, due to which Chandra Dev got angry. Hearing this, she vowed that she would not let her husband’s last rites be performed and would stay near his dead body.

After a year, Karva Chauth came again. All the sisters-in-law together take a vow of fasting and go to her to seek blessings. She tells everyone, make me a Suhagin like you, but the sisters-in-law ask her to request the next sister-in-law. While requesting, when the turn of the sixth sister-in-law came, she told that her fast was broken because of the younger brother and only his wife has the power to bring your husband back to life.

The younger sister-in-law also requested to become a Suhagin, but she started talking about other things. Karva caught her and did not let her go. Finally, seeing her penance, the sister-in-law’s heart melted. She cut her little finger and put the nectar that came out of it in her husband. Then Karva’s husband came back to life saying Shri Ganesh. In this way, Karva got her husband back. Since then, Karva Chauth fast started being observed for the long life of the husband.
